2011 Fleming Watch Display

"Ian Fleming's Own James Bond Watch"

May 2011 - August 2012

This showcased the only known surviving wristwatch owned and worn by James Bond creator Ian Fleming. On loan from stepdaughter Fionn Morgan.

Ian Fleming's Rolex Explorer model 1016 wristwatch was manufactured in 1960.

Experts believe it to be the basis for Fleming's description of Bond's watches in the novel "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" (1963). Thus it is commonly called "the original James Bond watch" or "the literary James Bond watch."

Other James Bond watchmakers were displayed along side it, throughout: Breitling, Omega, and Seiko.

In connection with publication of the 007 continuation story, "Carte Blanche," the actual Breitling for Bentley worn by author Jeffery Deaver during his book promotion tour was displayed along side Ian Fleming's original James Bond watch.
